Business Law: 30 June 2022
As flagged at our recent Seminar on Workplace Law, several changes applicable to the workplace commence tomorrow (1 July 2022).
The high income threshold increases from $158,500 to $162,000 from 1 July 2022. Employees with a guaranteed income equal to or exceeding this amount, excluding superannuation, are not covered by awards. Among other issues, this means they are not able to make unfair dismissal claims.
The national minimum wage will increase by 5.2%. Not all industries - such as the hospitality industry - need to pay this amount immediately, so if you are uncertain whether you need to pay the higher rate, please reach out to our Workplace Law team for advice.
The amount of superannuation employers need to pay their employees will also change, increasing from 10% to 10.5% and will increase to 12% by 2025.
